WHO
WE ARE
MASA Arts was founded in 2013 by Mrs Matija Sapundzieska and has grown from MASA-UK Art Gallery into a contemporary art space dedicated to promoting original artwork and supporting artists. At the heart of the gallery lies a deep love for art, people, and nature, alongside a strong awareness of climate change and the importance of protecting our planet.
Coming from a scientific background, Matija has always been driven by curiosity and the desire to understand the logic of energy, movement, and the natural laws that shape our world. Entering the world of art opened a completely new dimension—one defined by freedom of expression, emotion, and the unique energy present in every artwork.
After many years working in high-tech companies as a marketing manager, becoming a gallery owner and art curator has brought immense personal fulfilment. Being surrounded daily by inspiring and unique artworks creates a space filled with creativity, positivity, and joy—an energy MASA Arts is proud to share with artists, collectors, and visitors alike.
About Half Way by Julian Lees
A Note from the Founder
I have always believed that the most powerful stories are the ones that have been waiting in the wings. While the art world often chases the loudest trends, MASA ARTS was founded on a different conviction: that the most moving art is not always the most visible. There is a profound beauty in the "hidden legacy"—the work of extraordinary artists whose contributions have, for a time, remained out of sight.
Starting with Mr David Swithenbank (1926-2018), our special artist and friend, the president of the Bury Art Society founded in 1949 with the local MP as its first president, followed by LS Lowry whom David succeeded; To the resent hosting of a special exhibition for Julian Lees. A formidable artist, dedicated teacher, and former Head of the School of Art, Julian had stepped away from the public eye for thirty years. To bridge that three-decade gap and bring his work back to a gallery wall was more than just an exhibition; it was a sentimental homecoming and a unique piece of history reclaimed.
This is the heartbeat of MASA ARTS.
We exist to uncover these overlooked masterpieces and present them alongside contemporary local and international voices. By doing so, we offer our collectors more than just a piece of art—we offer a rare opportunity to own a story that might otherwise have remained undiscovered.
Art has the power to expand our understanding of the world and build a healthier, more connected society. Whether we are elevating British talent onto the global stage or introducing international perspectives to our local community, our goal is to foster a dialogue that transcends borders.
We invite you to explore these extraordinary, hidden legacies with us.

Our Mission
Our mission is to exceed the expectations of art lovers and collectors through curating a carefully selected collection of contemporary works from both local and international artists.
We believe that the most moving art is not always the most visible. By uncovering and presenting overlooked masterpieces, we aim to bridge the gap between discerning collectors and the extraordinary, hidden legacies of forgotten artists. Through curating original works that have remained out of sight for years, we offer a rare opportunity to own a piece of history that might otherwise remain undiscovered.
Our Vision
We believe that creativity is a powerful force for building a healthier society and inspiring positive social change. Art has the ability to expand our understanding of the world and deepen our sense of place within it.
Our vision is for MASA ARTS to be recognised as an international art hub—one that elevates British artists onto the global stage while also introducing international artists to local audiences. Through this exchange, we aim to foster cultural dialogue, connection, and appreciation across borders.

Nick W, CustomerWhat a great exhibition and gallery, the staff were friendly and very knowledgeable about the artists on show. The main artist Tim Schofield was there, his pieces were stunning. Very clever use of subtle colours that draw you in to feel part of very calm and relaxing scenes. Tim is a lovely person, passionate about his very unique style, this is definitely an artist to invest in.
